Calhoun is a small village located in Richland County, Illinois, in the United States. As of the 2020 census, 164 people lived there. It's a quiet community with a rich history.

History of Calhoun Village
The area now known as Calhoun is one of the oldest communities in Richland County. It was first called Fairview in the early 1830s. A man named Shadrach Ruark planned out the first lots for the community.
Reverend Ruark was an early Methodist leader. He performed the first wedding in Richland County on October 20, 1841. The original plans for the village were lost, so new ones were made in 1848. When the post office opened, the community was named Calhoun. It was named after Hugh Calhoun, who was one of the first settlers in the area.
Calhoun School's Story
The Calhoun School was built in 1912. It started as a one-story building. In 1920, another floor was added to create a two-year high school. By 1922, it became a three-year high school.
The high school used classrooms on the new upper floor and two rooms in the basement. Grades 1 through 8 were taught on the first floor. Calhoun had one of the first three-year high schools in Richland County.
Where is Calhoun Located?
Calhoun is found just east of Illinois State Route 130. It is southeast of the city of Olney.
According to the 2010 census, Calhoun covers about 1.06 square miles (2.75 square kilometers) of land. There is no water area within the village limits.
