History of Calhoun Village

When the post office opened, the community was named Calhoun. It was named after Hugh Calhoun, who was one of the first settlers in the area.

The Calhoun School was built in 1912. It started as a one-story building. In 1920, another floor was added to create a two-year high school. By 1922, it became a three-year high school.

The high school used classrooms on the new upper floor and two rooms in the basement. Grades 1 through 8 were taught on the first floor. Calhoun had one of the first three-year high schools in Richland County.
