The Calhoun County Fair is a super fun event held in Marshall, Michigan. It's really special because it's the oldest fair in Michigan that has been happening non-stop for many, many years!

The Fair's Long History

The place where the fair is held, called the fairgrounds, was started in 1848. It's a huge area, about 45 acres, with sunny spots, shady trees, and green grass. Imagine how big that is! Many of the old oak trees from way back then are still there.

When Did It Start?

The very first Calhoun County Fair happened in 1839. For many years, it moved around to different places. But in 1948, it found its forever home at the fairgrounds. Since then, it has been a famous and important part of Marshall.

Times When the Fair Didn't Happen

Sometimes, big world events can stop even the oldest traditions. The fair was cancelled in 1917 and 1918 because of World War I. It was also cancelled in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. That was the first time it had been cancelled in 102 years! But don't worry, it came back in 2021.
