Proposed boundaries

Bloxham County was a special idea for a new county in Florida, United States. It was planned out on paper, but it was never actually created. The people living there voted against making it a real county. The main town, or "county seat," for Bloxham County was supposed to be Williston, Florida.

What Was Bloxham County?

Bloxham County was a "proposed" county. This means it was an idea for a new area of land that would have its own local government. People sometimes suggest new counties to help manage a growing population or to make it easier for people to get services.

When Was Bloxham County Proposed?

The idea for Bloxham County came up in 1914. It was meant to be formed from parts of two existing counties: Levy County and Marion County. This would have changed the maps of Florida quite a bit!

Who Was Bloxham County Named After?

Bloxham County was going to be named after a very important person: William D. Bloxham. He was the governor of Florida two different times. He served as the state's thirteenth and seventeenth governor.

What About Call County?

There was also talk of another new county called Call County. This county would have been named after Richard Keith Call. He was also a governor, but he led Florida when it was still a territory, before it became a state. He was the third and fifth territorial governor.

Why Was Bloxham County Never Created?

Even though the idea was planned, Bloxham County never became real. In 1915, the people of Florida had a special vote, called a referendum. This vote was to decide if Bloxham County should be created. However, not enough people voted "yes." Because of this, the plan for Bloxham County was stopped. It remained just an idea on paper.
