Arnold's Military Journey

Calvert Arnold joined the military during World War I. He started in the Georgia National Guard. In 1917, he became an officer in the infantry. This was the start of his long career.

Training and Education

Arnold believed in learning. He attended several special schools for army leaders. He graduated from the Army Industrial College. He also went to the General Staff School and the Army Staff College. These schools helped him become a skilled military planner.

Service in World War II

During World War II, Arnold played a key role. He was sent to the Pacific Theater. From 1942 to 1943, he was the Chief Signal Officer. This meant he managed all army communications. He worked in the Netherlands East Indies and the Southwest Pacific.

Later in the war, from 1943 to 1945, he led the Central Signal Corps. This group was very important for army communication. In January 1945, he was promoted. He became a Brigadier General. He continued to work in the main office of the Chief Signal Officer until 1949. For his excellent service, he received the Legion of Merit award.
