The Calvin Memorial Presbyterian Church is a special building in North Omaha, Nebraska. You can find it at 3105 North 24th Street. This church was started in 1954. It was one of the first churches in the area to welcome people of all backgrounds.
The church was first known as the North Presbyterian Church. The City of Omaha says it is a great example of the Neo-Classical Revival style. This means it looks like old Greek and Roman buildings. It became an Omaha landmark in 1985. In 1986, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
History of the Church Building
The North Presbyterian Church building was finished in 1910. Its design was inspired by buildings from the 1898 Trans-Mississippi and International Exposition. This big fair was held nearby in Kountze Place.
A famous Omaha architect named F. A. Henninger designed the church. He made it for a wealthy part of Omaha that was growing fast.
Founding the Calvin Memorial Church
The Calvin Memorial Presbyterian Church was founded by Reverend Charles E. Tyler. He also started another church in Omaha called Hillside Presbyterian Church.
