Cameron was named after the two brothers who founded it: James and Addison Bovey Cameron. They helped start this community, and their last name lives on in the place itself.

Since 1919, Cameron has been easy to find because it sits right along U.S. Highway 287. This highway is a major road that helps people travel through Montana.
The community is nestled in a very green and rich valley. A "fertile valley" means the soil is great for growing things and raising animals. Because of this, many ranches are found here. Ranches are large farms where people raise cattle or other livestock.
