Camille Dalmais (born on March 10, 1978), known simply as Camille, is a talented French singer. She is famous for her unique voice and creative music style.

Early Life and Learning

Camille grew up in Paris, France. Her mother was an English teacher, and her father was a musician. From a young age, Camille loved ballet and was interested in bossa nova music and American musicals.

She went to a special school called Lycée International de Saint Germain-en-Laye. There, she earned her baccalaureate in literature. Because of her mother, Camille speaks both French and English very well. She wrote her first song, "Un Homme Déserté," when she was just sixteen.

Before starting her music career, she studied at Sciences Po Paris. In the early 2000s, while singing in jazz clubs in Paris, Camille also started acting. She appeared in the film Les Morsures de l'aube [fr] and sang a song for its soundtrack.

Music Career

In 2002, Camille signed a deal with Virgin Records. She then released her first album, Le Sac des Filles.

In 2004, she joined the band Nouvelle Vague. This band mixes new wave and bossa nova styles. Camille sang on some of their popular songs like "In a Manner of Speaking" and "The Guns of Brixton."

Her album Le Fil came out in 2005. She worked with English producer MaJiKer on this album. Le Fil had a very special idea: a continuous sound, like a "thread" ("le fil"), that ran through every song. The album focused on exploring the human voice, with only a few instruments like a double bass or guitar. Le Fil quickly became a very successful album. Her song "Ta Douleur" was even popular in Australia.

In 2007, Camille performed special musical works at a church in Paris. Her song "1, 2, 3" was used in a TV ad for Cacharel perfume. Her song "Waves" was also used in a Perrier drink ad.

She also contributed to the soundtrack of Pixar's movie Ratatouille in 2007, with the song "Le Festin." She also voiced the character Colette in the French version of the movie.

Camille's album Music Hole was released in 2008, again with MaJiKer. The first song from this album, "Gospel with No Lord," was released online.

Her song "Ta douleur" was even featured on the American TV show Saturday Night Live in a funny sketch.

She continued to work with Nouvelle Vague on their 2010 album Couleurs sur Paris. She also sang on a track for Jérôme Van Den Hole's album.

In 2015, Camille worked with famous composers Hans Zimmer and Richard Harvey for the soundtrack of the animated film The Little Prince.

Her song "She was" was a theme in the 2022 movie Corsage.

Most recently, Camille wrote all the original songs for the 2024 musical crime film Emilia Pérez. She worked with a Mexican translator to write the Spanish songs. Her partner, Clément Ducol, composed the film's music. Together, Camille and Ducol won the Cannes Soundtrack Award. Their song "El Mal" also won a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song and an Oscar!

Personal Life

Camille has two children with musician Clément Ducol. Their son, Marius, was born in 2010, and their daughter, Lila, was born in 2013.
