(1964)

Camp Favorites is a fun music album that was released around 1962 or 1963. It was made by a group called "The Campers" and was put out by Cameo Records. This album is special because it's the first known record made by the famous singer Phil Ochs, even though his name wasn't on it!

"The Campers" included Phil Ochs, who sang on the album without being named. There was also an unknown female singer and a group of young singers. Dick Weissman played the banjo on the record.

The songs on Camp Favorites are traditional tunes that kids often sing at summer camp. The album cover even shows a group of young people singing around a campfire.

Discovering the Album

For many years, fans of Phil Ochs didn't know about Camp Favorites. Then, in 2000, a researcher named David Cohen was putting together a full list of all of Ochs's work.

Michael Ochs, Phil's brother and former manager, told Cohen that Phil had recorded an album of campfire songs. However, Phil's name wasn't on the album. No one in the Ochs family had ever seen a copy of it. After a lot of searching, Cohen was able to find Camp Favorites and get a copy.

You can even listen to this album online today!
