Campbells Creek Park is a cool place found on Main Road in Campbells Creek, Victoria, Australia. It's a community park where people can relax, play, and enjoy nature.

Why Was the Park Built?

For many years, the area where the park now stands used to have a local swimming pool. But by 2009, the pool was getting old. Its structure and pipes were in bad shape, and it cost a lot of money to keep it running. Because of these problems, the Mount Alexander Shire Council (which is like the local government) decided to close the pool.

The council then made a plan to turn the old pool site into a brand new park for everyone to enjoy. They wanted to create a fun and useful space for the community.

How the Park Was Built: Stage 1

The park's development happened in two main steps. The first step, called Stage 1, was finished in 2011. This stage focused on getting the basic parts of the park ready.

Here's what was done in Stage 1:

  • Watering System: They put in new pipes for irrigation and drainage. This helps keep the grass and plants healthy.
  • Main Path: A central path was built. It goes from the front entrance of the park all the way to the Campbells Creek Trail and Reserve at the back.
  • Village Square: A special area was created for people to gather. It even has courts for playing boccie, which is a fun ball game.
  • Grassy Amphitheatre: This is like a small outdoor theatre with grassy steps. It's a great spot for events or just sitting and relaxing.
  • Landscaping: Trees were trimmed, and new plants were added to make the park look beautiful.

Stage 1 cost about $137,698 to complete. The council also made sure to ask the community for their ideas. This helped them plan for the next steps to make sure everyone would be happy with the park.

What's Next for the Park? Stage 2

The second step, Stage 2, was planned to add even more exciting features to Campbells Creek Park. In 2012 and 2013, money was set aside for this stage.

  • Funding: Regional Development Victoria gave $142,500, and the local council added $235,300. This money was for new additions to the park.
  • New Play Areas: Plans included installing new play facilities for kids.
  • Learning About History: Historical signs were planned to teach visitors about the area's past.
  • Local Art: Artworks by local artists were also planned to make the park more interesting.
  • Facilities: Public toilets were to be built, along with a picnic shelter that has barbeque facilities. A shade sail was also planned for the existing amphitheatre to provide cover from the sun.

Some of these Stage 2 plans are still being completed, but the goal is to make the park even better for everyone.
