The Canadian Lakehead Exhibition (CLE) is a super fun yearly fair in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada! It's a bit like a smaller version of the big fair in Toronto.
The CLE brings together local artists, craftspeople, and farmers to show off their amazing work. You can also enjoy a thrilling midway with rides and games, yummy food stands, and lots of other activities for families and people of all ages. This exciting event happens every year in early August. You can find it on the CLE grounds in the Intercity area of Thunder Bay.
How the CLE Works
The CLE is a special kind of organization called a "not-for-profit." This means it doesn't try to make money for owners. Instead, any money it earns goes back into running the fair and keeping the grounds nice.
A group of volunteers from the local community helps run the CLE. They form a board that makes important decisions. Besides putting on the yearly fair, this board also manages renting out the buildings on the fairgrounds. These buildings are used for different events throughout the year.
Buildings at the CLE Grounds
The CLE grounds have several buildings that are used all year long, not just during the annual fair. These buildings host many different activities and events.
Here are some of the main buildings you'll find there:
- The Heritage Building
- The Coliseum Building
- The Dorothy E. Dove Building
- The Claydon Building (also known as the Soccer Plex, where people play indoor soccer)
- The Sports Dome (This building is owned by a private company, but it rents space from the CLE)
- Famous Players Silvercity Theater (This movie theater is owned by Cineplex Entertainment, and it also rents its land from the CLE)
