A Look at Candelaria's Past
Candelaria has a very interesting history. For many years, there was a big disagreement over who owned the land. Both Argentina and Paraguay wanted Candelaria to be part of their country.
Early Control and Fortifications
In 1815, the people from Paraguay left Candelaria. However, they came back just six years later, in 1821. By 1838, the area around Candelaria was made very strong. The Paraguayans built many defenses to protect it.
Candelaria Returns to Argentina
The ownership of Candelaria changed after a major conflict. This conflict was known as the Paraguayan War. This war involved several countries in South America. After Paraguay lost the war, Candelaria was given back to Argentina. This happened in 1870.
