Candice Patton is an American actress. She is best known for playing Iris West-Allen in the TV show The Flash.
Early life
Candice Patton grew up in Plano, Texas. She went to Southern Methodist University in Dallas. There, she earned a degree in Theatre.
Career
In May 2004, after her first year at university, Candice took part in a special contest. It was called CBS' Soap Star Screen Test. This contest looked for university students to win a role on the soap opera The Young and the Restless. Candice won the contest!
In 2008, Candice had a main role in a web series called Sorority Forever. She also appeared in an independent movie named Commander and Chief.
Candice has acted in many TV shows. These include the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful. She became very well-known for playing Iris West in The Flash on The CW network. This role also led her to appear in other shows in the Arrowverse. These shows include Arrow, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow.
In one special episode of The Flash called "Duet", she played a different character named Millie Foss. This was part of a dream world story. For her role as Iris West, Candice won a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress on Television in 2017. This award celebrates great acting in science fiction and fantasy.
Helping others
In 2017, Candice and her co-stars from the Arrowverse started something special. They created Shethority ("She + Authority"). This is an online group for women around the world. It aims to be a positive place where women can inspire, empower, and share with each other.
Many actresses from the Arrowverse are part of Shethority. These include Melissa Benoist, Nicole Maines, Chyler Leigh, Caity Lotz, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Tala Ashe, Emily Bett Rickards, Juliana Harkavy, Katie Cassidy, and Danielle Panabaker.
Shethority also has its own clothing line. All the money raised from selling these clothes goes to charities. These charities help girls and women with their rights. Examples include Girls Not Brides and Girls, Inc..
In 2019, Candice joined a tour to visit U.S. military bases in Kuwait. She went with DC Comics Co-Publisher Jim Lee, writer Tom King, and other actresses. They visited about 12,000 U.S. soldiers. This tour was part of DC's 80th anniversary of Batman. It was organized by the United Service Organizations (USO).
Personal life
In September 2024, Candice Patton welcomed her first child. Her child's father is former professional basketball player J.R. Smith.
