Candy Buttons

Candy Buttons, also known as Candy Dots, are a super classic sweet treat! They are tiny, colorful candy bumps stuck onto a strip of paper. To eat them, you carefully peel them off the paper. This fun candy has been around for a long time and is loved by many.

The Sweet Story of Candy Buttons

Candy Buttons were first created by two companies: Cumberland Valley and J. Sudak and Son. J. Sudak and Son was located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Over the years, the candy changed hands a few times.

From Sudak to Necco

In 1977, J. Sudak and Son changed its name to Uncle Nibbles Candy Factory. They then sold the Candy Buttons business to a company called CeeDee Candy. Later, CeeDee Candy sold it to a very famous candy company called Necco.

After buying CeeDee Candy, Necco also bought the Cumberland Valley Company in 1980. This made Necco the only company making Candy Buttons in the United States for many years. They made a huge number of these candies – about 750 million candy buttons every year!

A New Home with Doscher's Candies

Sadly, Necco faced some problems and went out of business in 2018. But don't worry, Candy Buttons didn't disappear! A company from Cincinnati called Doscher's Candies bought the rights to make Candy Buttons at an auction. They were the very first candy from the old Necco company to come back to stores, which was exciting for fans!

Flavors and Sizes

Each strip of Candy Buttons comes with three yummy flavors:

  • Cherry (pink dots)
  • Lime (blue dots)
  • Lemon (yellow dots)

You can find Candy Buttons in two different strip sizes. The longer strip is about 22½ inches long. The shorter strip is about 11¼ inches long.

Who Invented the Candy Button Machine?

The clever person who invented the machine that makes Candy Buttons was an engineer named George Theofiel Dib. Thanks to his invention, we can all enjoy these unique paper-strip candies!
