Lime facts for kids
A lime is a small, green, round citrus fruit. It grows on a tree and is very similar to a lemon. Limes are known for their sour, acidic taste. They are also packed with vitamin C, which is super important for staying healthy!
Long ago, Sailors from Britain used to get sick with a disease called scurvy. This happened because they didn't get enough vitamin C. To prevent this, they were given lime or lemon juice. This is how British sailors earned the nickname Limey!
Limes are usually bright green. If they stay on the tree for a very long time, they can turn yellow. When this happens, they might look a lot like small, round lemons.
People use lime juice in many ways, especially in cooking and drinks. You might find lime in tasty cocktails or refreshing sodas. The oils from limes are also used to make nice-smelling perfumes, cleaning products, and even for aromatherapy.
