Her Start as a Journalist
Before writing novels, Candy Gourlay was a journalist. From 1984 to 1989, she worked in the Philippines. She wrote for a newspaper called Mr & Ms Special Edition. This newspaper was important because it spoke out against a powerful leader. It helped bring about big changes in the country.
Candy also worked for other newspapers and magazines. She even reported from London for a news service. Later, she helped create a radio show for the BBC. It was about how Filipino people moving abroad affected their families.
Becoming a Children's Author
