History of the Chapel
How the Chapel Changed Over Time
In 1931, the chapel was damaged. After this, it was used for different things. First, it became a storage building. Later, it was even used as a shop to fix cars! This continued until the late 1990s.
Becoming a Museum
In the late 1990s, the city of Algeciras took back the chapel. They decided to give it a new purpose. It became the home of the Municipal Museum of Sacred Art. This museum displays religious art and artifacts.
What the Chapel Looks Like
The Capilla del Cristo de la Alameda is quite simple inside. It has one main room. There is also a small sacristy, which is a room where priests prepare for services. The outside of the chapel has a special style called Baroque. It has a gabled facade, which means the front wall has a triangular shape at the top, like a house roof.
