The Capt. Thomas Morse Farm was once a very old farmhouse in Dublin, New Hampshire. It was a small, one-and-a-half-story house. This type of house is called a "Cape style" farmhouse. It was likely built in the late 1700s. This was when some of the first settlers came to the town.

Today, the building serves as a clubhouse for the Dublin Lake Golf Club. It is one of the few buildings from that early time that still exists. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. This list helps protect important historical places. It seems the original house might have been taken down. A newer building may have been built in its place.

What Did the Farmhouse Look Like?

The Capt. Thomas Morse Farm house was in a quiet, country area. It was west of Dublin Pond. The house was made of wood. It had a pointed roof and flat wooden boards on the outside. This is called a "clapboarded" exterior.

The front of the house faced north toward the road. It had three sections. The main door was in the middle. Windows were on each side of the door. Above the door was a small window with four panes of glass. A porch with a slanted roof covered the front. It had columns that looked like ancient Greek columns. A two-story porch was also on the right side of the house.

Who Was Captain Thomas Morse?

The house was once part of a much bigger home. This larger home belonged to Thomas Morse. He was one of the first English settlers to live permanently in Dublin. A local historian said his original house was a "two-story mansion."

The larger house was probably taken down sometime between 1865 and 1909. In 1909, the golf club bought the property. Several members of the Morse family who owned the farm were important in town. One of them was a soldier in the American Revolutionary War.

How Did the Golf Club Get the Farm?

In 1885, a man named Livingston Stone bought the property. He was important in starting the "summer colony" in Dublin. This was when people from cities would come to Dublin for the summer.

Livingston Stone later gave the property to Louis Amory. Louis Amory then gave it to the Dublin Lake Club. This is how the golf course was started. The old farmhouse became their clubhouse.
