Anne Therese Morgan was born on 16 November 1954. She is an Australian writer who creates books and plays for children, as well as poetry.
About Anne Morgan
Anne Morgan was born in Hobart, Tasmania. She went to St Joseph's School and Mount Carmel College. Later, she studied to become a teacher at the Tasmanian College of Advanced Education. She learned to teach English, Drama, and Biology.
Her Career Journey
Anne started her teaching career at Burnie High School. She also taught in faraway places in the Northern Territory. In 1978, she traveled through Queensland. She performed in schools as an actor with the Queensland Theatre Company.
After that, she returned to Hobart. There, she taught young people who were looking for jobs. In the early 1980s, she earned an advanced degree in education from the University of Tasmania. For 14 years, she worked for the Australian government in Hobart.
In 2008, Anne completed a doctorate degree in Writing. She studied at Edith Cowan University in Perth. For her excellent research, she received a special medal in 2009.
Anne's Books for Kids
Anne Morgan's first picture book for children was The Glow Worm Cave. It was published in 1999 and had illustrations by Belinda Kurczok. Since then, she has published seven more stories for children. These include the popular Captain Clawbeak series. Random House Australia published this series.
Her book, The Smallest Carbon Footprint in the Land & Other Ecotales, came out in 2013. Gay McKinnon illustrated this book. Another book, The Sky Dreamer, was published in 2011. A Swiss artist named Celine Eimann drew the pictures for it. A French version of The Sky Dreamer was also released in 2011. This book tells a story about a young boy dealing with sadness after his sister passes away.
Anne Morgan also writes poetry. Her first full collection of poems was A Reckless Descent from Eternity, published in 2009. Today, Anne lives on Bruny Island in Tasmania. She spends her time writing full-time.
Awards and Recognition
Anne Morgan has received several awards for her writing:
- 2014: The Wilderness Society's Environmental Children's Book of the Year (Junior Fiction, equal winner) for The Smallest Carbon Footprint in the Land and Other Ecotales.
- 2009: The Edith Cowan University Faculty of Education and the Arts Postgraduate Research Medal.
- 2009: Highly Commended in the Wildcare Tasmania international Nature Writing Award.
- 2007: Captain Clawbeak and the Red Herring was featured in the NSW School Magazine's list of Forty Excellent Books.
- 2006: Highly Commended in Island's Gwen Harwood Poetry Prize.
- 2001: The S.A.E. Strom Maritime Short Story Award.
