On March 17, 2022, a large wildfire called the Eastland Texas Wildfire Complex affected Carbon. This fire caused a lot of damage. Several homes, buildings, and vehicles in the town were completely burned.

- Thomas G. Morris: He was born in Carbon and later became a Congressman for New Mexico.
- Lee Patton: He was a well-known basketball coach at West Virginia University. He was also born in Carbon.
