Carl Andrews is a politician who served in the New York State Senate. He represented parts of Brooklyn, New York, from 2002 to 2006. As a member of the Democratic Party, he represented neighborhoods like Crown Heights, Flatbush, and Park Slope.
Carl Andrews went to Medgar Evers College. He also earned a Master's degree in African-American Studies from SUNY-Albany. His first public role was in 1981. He served on a community school board in Crown Heights. He also worked on Community Board 8.
Mr. Andrews has taught as a professor at The College of New Rochelle. He also taught at his old college, Medgar Evers College. He worked for Attorney General Eliot Spitzer. His job was Director of Intergovernmental Relations.
In February 2002, Carl Andrews ran for a special election. This was for an open seat in the 20th State Senate district. He won this election. The seat became open when Marty Markowitz became Brooklyn Borough President.

Running for Congress
Carl Andrews was one of four Democratic candidates. They were all trying to represent the 11th Congressional district of New York State. This was a very competitive race.
Many important New York politicians supported him. These included Attorney General Eliot Spitzer and State Senator Carl Kruger. New York City Comptroller Bill Thompson also endorsed him.
On August 14, 2006, Carl Andrews received a big endorsement. The New York State AFL-CIO union supported him. To get this support, he needed more than two-thirds of the union members' votes. Union president Dennis Hughes confirmed he achieved this.
On September 12, 2006, Carl Andrews ran in a primary election. He was one of four Democratic candidates. He came in third place. He received almost 23% of the votes.
