About the House
This historic house is located at 1265 East 100 South. It was designed by a famous architect named Carl M. Neuhausen. The house was built in 1901. It has a unique look called the Chateauesque style. This style often makes buildings look like grand French castles.
The Architect: Carl M. Neuhausen
Carl M. Neuhausen was born in 1858 in Stuttgart, Germany. He became a very important architect in Utah. People say he was the only architect in Utah to use the Chateauesque style. This style brings in ideas from the Renaissance period.
Neuhausen worked with another architect, Richard K.A. Kletting, for a while. Then, in 1895, he started his own business. He designed many large and beautiful buildings in Salt Lake City. Some of his famous works include the Kearns Mansion and the Cathedral of the Madeleine.
Sadly, Carl M. Neuhausen passed away in this very house in 1907. He was 49 years old.
National Recognition
The Carl M. Neuhausen House was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places on October 3, 1980. This listing helps protect the house and recognize its historical importance.
