Carlos Augusto León Arocha was a famous Venezuelan writer, poet, and politician. He was born in Caracas, Venezuela, on October 20, 1914. He passed away on May 13, 1997. Besides being a poet, he was also an essayist, historian, and scientist.

His Education and Career
Carlos Augusto León was a very educated person. In 1936, he earned a special degree called a doctorate. This degree was in physical science and mathematics from the Central University of Venezuela.
He also became a teacher! He got a teaching degree in history and geography. For more than five years, he taught at the Andrés Bello Lyceum School in Caracas. Later in his life, he became a professor at the Central University of Venezuela. He taught about modern literature there for twenty years. He also helped manage the university's publications department.
His Political Life and Poetry
As he got older, Carlos Augusto León focused a lot on writing poetry and being active in politics. He cared deeply about ordinary people and groups who faced challenges. He often spoke up for them.
During a time when General Marcos Pérez Jiménez was in charge, Carlos Augusto León faced difficulties. He was held captive and then had to leave his home country for a long time. While he was away, he traveled to many countries in Latin America and Europe. He shared his political ideas and his poems with people there.
In 1953, he visited Russia. There, he received a special award called the World Peace Council Prize. After some time, he returned to Venezuela. He then held important political jobs. He was a City Council member in Caracas and later a Senator in the National Congress.
Just like his political work, Carlos Augusto León's poetry also carried a strong message. His poems often defended and celebrated the common people.
