Playing Career
Starting Out in Madrid
Carlos Sánchez grew up in Madrid, Spain. He started playing football in the youth system of a local club called CD Leganés. In 1999, he joined one of the biggest football clubs in the world, Real Madrid.
At Real Madrid, he played for their B and C teams. These are like junior teams where young players develop their skills. He was the main goalkeeper for both of these teams.
Playing for Real Madrid's Main Team
Sánchez got a chance to play for Real Madrid's first team once. This happened on December 23, 2001. He played in an away game against RCD Mallorca, which ended in a 1–1 draw. This was a big moment for him, even though he was usually a third-choice goalkeeper.
Loan Spells and New Teams
From 2004 to 2006, Carlos Sánchez was loaned out to other teams. He played for Polideportivo Ejido and UD Almería. Both of these teams were in the Segunda División, which is the second-highest football league in Spain. He didn't play very often during these loan periods.
Success at CD Castellón
In 2006, Carlos Sánchez became a free agent, meaning he could sign with any team he wanted. He joined CD Castellón, another team in the Segunda División. Here, he became a very important player.
In his second year with Castellón, during the 2007–08 season, he was the main goalkeeper. His team finished fifth in the league. He also won the Ricardo Zamora Trophy for his category. This award is given to the goalkeeper who has the best goals-to-games ratio. Sánchez only let in 27 goals in 33 games, which was an excellent record!
Later Career and Retirement
After Castellón was relegated in 2010, Carlos Sánchez, who was 32 years old, moved back to Madrid. He signed with an amateur team called CD Puerta Bonita.
After he stopped playing professional football, Sánchez continued to be involved in the sport. He became a goalkeeper coach at his old youth club, CD Leganés. This means he now helps train new goalkeepers to become great players, just like he was!
