Carlton Anthony Chapman (born 13 April 1971 – died 12 October 2020) was a famous Indian football player. He was also a technical director at the Quartz International Football Academy.
As a player, Carlton Chapman was a midfielder. He played for the Indian national team from 1995 to 2001 and even became its captain. He had a very successful club career, playing for teams like East Bengal and JCT Mills.
After retiring as a player, Chapman became a coach. He coached the Tata Football Academy team for six years. He also coached Royal Wahingdoh FC and Students Union. Later, he was the head coach of Sudeva Moonlight FC.

Carlton Chapman's Football Journey
Carlton Chapman started his football career in Bangalore in the mid-1980s. He first played for a local club called Southern Blues. In 1990, he joined the Tata Football Academy as a young player. He stayed there until 1993.
Playing for East Bengal and JCT Mills
After leaving the academy, Chapman joined East Bengal in 1993. He had a great two years with them. In his first season, he scored three goals in one match against an Iraqi club, Al-Zawra. East Bengal won that game 6–2 in the Asian Cup Winners' Cup.
In 1995, he moved to JCT Mills. This team was very strong and won 14 tournaments during his time there. He played alongside legendary Indian footballers like I. M. Vijayan and Baichung Bhutia.
After playing for FC Kochin for one season, Chapman returned to East Bengal in 1998. He became the captain of the team in 1999–2000. Under his leadership, East Bengal won the National Football League in 2001. After this big win, he decided to retire from playing professional football.
Carlton Chapman also played for different state teams in the Santosh Trophy. He represented Karnataka, Punjab, and West Bengal.
Carlton Chapman's Coaching Career
After retiring as a player, Carlton Chapman started coaching. He coached the Tata Football Academy team from 2002 to 2008. He began as an assistant coach in December 2002.
Coaching Young Talent
During his time at Tata Football Academy, he also worked with the Indian under-19 team as an assistant coach. He helped the Jharkhand under-19 team in 2003 and 2005. He left Tata Football Academy in 2008 because the team was not allowed to play in the top division even after qualifying.
After that, he coached a club in New Delhi called Royal Rangers in 2008. Then, Royal Wahingdoh, a club from Shillong, asked him to join them. He led Royal Wahingdoh to win the Shillong Premier League three times in a row. They also won the Bordoloi Trophy in 2011.
Later Coaching Roles
In 2013, Chapman joined Bhawanipore FC, a club from Kolkata. They played in the I-League 2nd Division. In 2014, he coached Students Union in the Bangalore Super Division.
In 2017, he became an assistant coach for Sudeva Moonlight in Delhi. Under his guidance, the club moved up to the I-League 2nd Division. In December 2017, Carlton Chapman became the Technical Director of the Quartz International Football Academy. This academy is located in Kozhikode.
Remembering Carlton Chapman
Carlton Chapman passed away due to a heart attack in Bangalore on 12 October 2020. He is remembered as a talented player and a dedicated coach who contributed a lot to Indian football.
