About Baroness Chisholm

Early Life and Family

Baroness Chisholm is the only daughter of John Wyndham, 1st Baron Egremont, and Pamela Wyndham, Lady Egremont. Her older brother, Max Egremont, inherited the family's special titles.

In 1976, Carlyn Wyndham married Colin Chisholm. Colin is the son of Archibald Chisholm, who was awarded a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) for his achievements. Baroness Chisholm and her husband have three children: two sons and one daughter.

Her Role in the House of Lords

On 16 September 2014, she was given the title of Baroness Chisholm of Owlpen. This title is linked to Owlpen in the county of Gloucestershire. She joined the House of Lords as a member of the Conservative Party.

She served as a baroness-in-waiting several times. This role is like being a government whip, helping to make sure members vote the way their party wants. She held this position from 2015 to 2016, 2017 to 2018, 2019 to 2020, and 2021 to 2022. In 2016, she also spoke for the Cabinet Office in the House of Lords.

In 2022, Baroness Chisholm became one of six ladies chosen to be "Queen's companions" to Queen Camilla. At the same time, she decided to leave the Conservative Party group in the House of Lords. She now sits as a member who is not officially linked to any political party.

In 2023, she and her husband were invited to ride in the King's procession at Royal Ascot.
