Carme Bravo Roy (born October 24, 1919, in Gironella, died April 29, 2007, in Barcelona) was a talented pianist from Catalonia, Spain. She finished her piano studies at the Municipal Conservatory of Barcelona. There, she earned many awards and even a scholarship to study in Paris. In 1950, she moved to France. She continued her piano training with famous teachers like Madga Tagliaferro and Lazare Lévy.

Carme Bravo's Life Story
Her Early Years
Carme Bravo was born into a family of craftspeople. She received her first piano lessons from a kind neighbor. Later, her family moved to Barcelona. There, she started taking piano and music theory classes at a music school. During this time, she became good friends with Petri Palou, who was also a piano student.
Her Exciting Music Career
Carme Bravo began her solo piano career in Barcelona. She performed with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra. She worked with Eduard Toldrà, a well-known conductor.
In 1941, Bravo took part in a piano competition. It was held at the Coliseum theatre in Barcelona. There, she met the composer Frederic Mompou. They would later get married in 1957.
In 1950, the city of Barcelona gave her a special scholarship. This allowed her to travel to Paris to continue her piano studies. While in Paris, she performed on French radio. Bravo also gave many concerts in Italy and the Netherlands. She played both classical music and Spanish pieces. She even took lessons from other famous professors, like Ricard Vinyes.
During her marriage, Carme Bravo taught piano. She worked at the Municipal Conservatory of Barcelona. She also taught teaching methods at the Escola Universitària del Professorat. After her husband passed away, she started performing again. She played his music in places like Japan, the United States, and other parts of Spain.
Her Personal Life
Carme Bravo spent her early childhood living with her parents in Gironella. Her older brothers and sisters were away at a boarding school. Her mother taught her at home when she was very young. It was at the Municipal Conservatory of Barcelona that she met her close friend, Petri Palou.
After meeting the composer Frederic Mompou, they became very close. They often met for walks around Barcelona. Their friendship lasted for fifteen years. They eventually married in 1957.
Bravo was also friends with many other famous artists and poets. She stayed in touch with people like Alicia de Larrocha, Xavier Montsalvatge, Josep Janés, and Ester Nadal. Bravo and Nadal had worked together on many musical projects. They also helped start a mixed choir called Cor Mixt Polifònic.
Her Later Years
After her husband died in 1987, Carme Bravo started giving private lessons. She taught pianists how to play Mompou's music. She also included his works in her international concerts.
She created a foundation to share Mompou's music, especially with young people. On June 12, 2006, she helped establish the Frederic Mompou Private Foundation. She worked with Juventuts Musicals de Barcelona and Joan Millà.
She recorded two music CDs. These were released by EMI Classics and PDI.
