Carme Torras Genís, born on July 4, 1956, is a Spanish computer scientist. She is well-known for her important research in robotics and artificial intelligence. Besides her scientific work, she also writes fiction books in Catalan. She has been a member of Academia Europaea since 2010.
About Carme Torras
Carme Torras has an impressive educational background. She first studied mathematics at the University of Barcelona. She earned her master's degree there in 1978. Then, she went to the University of Massachusetts to study computer science. She received another master's degree in 1981. She continued her studies and received her Ph.D. in computer science from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia in 1984.
Since 1991, Carme Torras has been a research professor. She works at the Spanish National Research Council. This is a very important role where she helps lead new discoveries in science.
Besides her scientific career, Carme Torras is also a talented writer. She writes fiction, especially science fiction. Her novel Pedres de toc won the Premio Primera Columna award. Another one of her novels, La mutació sentimental (published in 2008), won the Premio Manuel de Pedrolo. This award is specifically for science fiction literature. In 2012, she published another book called Miracles perversos.
