Carol Joan Sutton (born Carol Dickerson; December 3, 1944 – December 10, 2020) was an American actress. She was well-known for her work in plays, movies, and TV shows. Some of her most famous movies include Steel Magnolias, Monster's Ball, and Ray.

Carol Dickerson was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. She went to Xavier University Preparatory School. Later, she studied at Xavier University of Louisiana. She left college after marrying Archie Sutton, but they later divorced.
Carol worked for an organization called Total Community Action. She also earned a special certificate in early childhood development. This certificate was from Texas Southern University in Houston. She was also a member of St Francis de Sales Catholic Church in New Orleans. Her brother, Oris Buckner III, was a police detective in New Orleans. He worked to improve things in the police department.
Carol Sutton passed away on December 10, 2020. She was 76 years old. Her death was due to problems from COVID-19. This happened during the COVID-19 pandemic in New Orleans. She was buried at Mount Olivet Cemetery in New Orleans. The sixth episode of the second season of the TV show Outer Banks was dedicated to her memory. The episode was called "My Druthers."
Carol Sutton's Acting Journey
Carol Sutton started her acting career in the 1960s. She joined a group called the Dashiki Project Theatre. Her very first role on TV was in 1974. It was in a TV movie called The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman.
Carol spent a lot of her career acting in plays. She also taught acting in her hometown. She played many supporting roles in American movies and TV shows. Some of these include The Pelican Brief, Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh, American Horror Story: Coven, True Detective, Kidnap, The Last Exorcism, Outer Banks and Killer Joe.
In 2012, Carol Sutton received a special award. It was the New Orleans Lifetime Achievement Award. This award honored her long and successful career.
In 2019, she played a main character named Lena Younger. This was in a play called A Raisin in the Sun. The play was written by Lorraine Hansberry.
