About Caroline Buchanan

Early Life and Education

Caroline, often called Caro, was born in Canberra, Australia, on October 24, 1990. She went to Duffy Primary School and then to Merici College and Erindale College for high school.

Personal Life

In September 2018, Caro married Barry Nobles, who is also a BMX rider from America. She is 165 cm (about 5 feet 5 inches) tall and weighs 68 kg (about 150 pounds).

In late 2017, Caro had a serious accident while riding an off-road vehicle. She was badly hurt and needed special care to recover.

Caroline's Cycling Career

Caroline Buchanan proudly represents Australia in both BMX and mountain biking. Since 2007, her coach has been Wade Bootes. She trains mostly on Queensland's Gold Coast. She also has a special cycling scholarship from the ACT Academy of Sport. Caro is a member of the Tuggeranong Vikings BMX Club.

Early Achievements

Caroline has won the Australian BMX championship 11 times! In 2011, she won a silver medal at the BMX World Championships in a time trial event. She was also the world champion in a mountain biking event called 4-X in both 2009 and 2010. She has been named Australia's best female mountain bike rider three times.

In 2008, Caroline was one of Australia's top BMX riders. However, she was too young to compete in the Olympics that year. After this, she decided to also start competing in mountain biking.

Olympic Dreams and World Titles

In 2012, Caroline focused on BMX to try and earn a spot in the Olympics. That year, she became the first Australian woman to win a round of the Supercross series. She also had the fastest times in the 2012 time trial event at the World Championships in England. By May 2012, she was ranked the number one women's BMX rider in the world! She was chosen to represent Australia at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the women's BMX event.

In September 2013, Caroline won the world title in the UCI World Four Cross Championship in Austria. She beat the defending champion from the Netherlands. In July of the same year, she also won the UCI BMX World Championships in New Zealand. Because of her amazing year, she won the Sir Hubert Opperman Trophy. This award is given to Australia's best all-round cyclist. She was the first BMX or mountain bike rider to ever win it!

In May 2016, Caroline won the Elite Women's Time Trial at the World BMX Championships in Colombia. She also placed second in the Elite Women's BMX race.

At the 2016 Summer Olympics, Caroline qualified second in the seeding round. Sadly, she crashed during one of the semi-final races and did not make it to the final.

Recent Comeback

After recovering from her accident in late 2017, Caroline started competing in freestyle BMX events. In October 2019, she joined the Ride Concepts team. She was aiming to compete in BMX at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
