She uses this knowledge to create computer programs. These programs help people learn better by making communication easier. She has also led important groups like the International Society for the Learning Sciences.

Early Life and Education

Carolyn Rosé studied computer science at the University of California, Irvine. She then went to Carnegie Mellon University for her advanced studies. There, she earned a master's degree in computational linguistics. Later, she completed her doctorate in language technologies. Her work was guided by Lori Levin. After finishing her doctorate, Rosé became a faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh.

Research and Career

Rosé returned to Carnegie Mellon University in 2003. She became a tenured professor there in 2014. By 2017, she was made a full Professor. Rosé believes that computers can be most helpful when they understand conversations. She studies how humans communicate. Then, she uses these findings to build computer tools for learning. These tools have been shown to help students learn more effectively. At Carnegie Mellon, she leads a program called DANCE. This program focuses on how people talk and learn together.

In 2015, Rosé was the president of the International Society of the Learning Sciences. This group helps improve how people learn. In 2020, she received a special award. It was the Leshner Leadership Fellowship from the American Association for the Advancement of Science. This fellowship supported her work in teaching the public about artificial intelligence.
