Caron Louisa Keating (born October 5, 1962 – died April 13, 2004) was a much-loved television presenter from Northern Ireland. She was known for her friendly personality and exciting adventures on TV. Caron inspired many people, especially during her time on the popular children's show Blue Peter.

Caron Keating's Early Life and Education

Caron Keating was born in Fulham, west London, in 1962. Her parents were from Northern Ireland. When she was just three months old, her family moved back to Northern Ireland, where she grew up.

Her mother, Gloria Hunniford, was also a famous TV presenter. Her father, Donald Keating, was a producer for the BBC. Caron went to Methodist College, Belfast. There, she did very well in her studies.

After school, Caron was accepted into the University of Bristol. She studied English and Drama. At 21, she earned her degree with honours.

Becoming a TV Star

Caron's journey in television began in Northern Ireland. She presented shows like The Video Picture Show and Greenrock. But her biggest opportunity came in 1986. She was chosen to join the team of Blue Peter.

Adventures on Blue Peter

On Blue Peter, Caron worked with other presenters like Peter Duncan and Yvette Fielding. She had many amazing adventures. She traveled to Moscow in 1987. She even swam with sharks!

Caron also did thrilling activities like abseiling down tall buildings. She once stood strapped to the top of a light aircraft while it did amazing tricks in the air. In 1988, she even interviewed the Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, on the show.

After Blue Peter

Caron left Blue Peter in 1990 after four exciting years. She then joined BBC Radio 5. She co-hosted a show called A Game of Two Halves. Film critic Mark Kermode described her as "The very dictionary definition of Lovely."

Caron also presented other TV programmes, including This Morning. She was also the face of Sainsbury's Reward Card for several years.

Caron's Family Life

Caron Keating married Russ Lindsay in 1991. They had two sons. Charles Jackson Lindsay was born in 1994. Gabriel Don Lindsay was born in 1997. Gabriel's middle name was given in honour of his grandfather, Caron's father, who passed away shortly before Gabriel was born. The family lived in Cornwall for a few years.

The Caron Keating Foundation

Caron Keating was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1997. She bravely faced her illness for several years. Caron passed away in 2004 at the age of 41.

After her passing, Caron's family created The Caron Keating Foundation. This foundation helps people affected by cancer. It raises money to support professional carers and healing practitioners. It also helps individuals and families dealing with the disease. The foundation also supports cancer charities. Its goal is to help find ways to prevent, detect, and cure cancer. Caron's mother, Gloria Hunniford, and her two brothers, Michael and Paul Keating, set up the foundation.
