Ahumada is a large area, like a county, in northern Mexico. It is one of 67 such areas in the state of Chihuahua. The main town and center of Ahumada is called Villa Ahumada.

Villa Ahumada: The Main Town

Villa Ahumada is the most important town in the Ahumada area. It's also known officially as Miguel Ahumada. You can find it in the state of Chihuahua, in northern Mexico.

The town is located right along Highway 45. This highway connects it to bigger cities. For example, it's about 130 kilometers south of Ciudad Juárez and 247 kilometers north of the city of Chihuahua. In 2010, about 8,575 people called Villa Ahumada home.

Villa Ahumada is famous for its roadside restaurants and delicious burrito stands. Many people stop here to enjoy the local food, especially the tasty cheese!

Carrizal: A Historic Community

Carrizal is a smaller, rural community within the Ahumada area. In 2010, it had about 102 people living there. It sits high up, about 1,120 meters above sea level.

The Founding of Carrizal

Carrizal has a long history. It was first started on November 26, 1772. Back then, it was a Jesuit mission, which is like a religious settlement, called San Fernando de las Amarillas del Carrizal.

It was also an important military outpost, known as a presidio. This outpost, along with a civilian settlement, helped protect the route of the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro. This was a very old and important road used for travel and trade.
