Carroll Meins was born in Boston on October 22, 1892. He went to public schools in Boston and finished high school in 1911. He graduated from the High School of Commerce.
Serving His Country
During World War I, Carroll Meins joined the United States Army. He became a First Lieutenant in the Quartermaster Corps. This part of the army helps supply soldiers with what they need. He spent about a year and a half serving in France with the American Expeditionary Forces.
After the War
After the war ended, Meins worked as the treasurer for a company called Sparrow and Meins Chocolate Company. This shows he also had experience in business.
His Work in Government
Leading the Port of Boston
In 1953, President Dwight D. Eisenhower chose Carroll Meins for an important job. He became the Collector of Customs for the Port of Boston. This role meant he was in charge of checking goods coming into the port and collecting taxes on them.
Sadly, Carroll Meins passed away on September 14, 1953. He died at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
