The Carter–Worth House and Farm is a very old and important house and farm located in East Bradford Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania. It's also known by other names like Armstrong Farm, Upper Plantation, Francis Worth Farm, and Tall Pine Farm. This historic place gives us a peek into the past.

What is the Carter-Worth House?

The Carter–Worth House and Farm is a special property that has been around for a long time. It's considered a "historic home and farm" because it has a lot of history connected to it. It's located in a beautiful area of Pennsylvania.

A Look at Its History

The very first part of the house was built around the year 1815. Back then, it was a two-story building with three sections and a special kind of roof called a gable roof. Imagine a house that's over 200 years old!

How It Grew Over Time

Over the years, the house changed and grew. Sometime before the American Civil War (which happened from 1861 to 1865), the house was made much bigger. It was expanded to three stories tall and its size actually doubled! This shows how families or owners might have needed more space as time went on.

Becoming a Historic Landmark

Because of its age and importance, the Carter–Worth House and Farm was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. This is a special list kept by the United States government. It includes buildings, sites, and objects that are important in American history, architecture, archaeology, engineering, or culture. Being on this list helps protect these places.

The farm is also part of a larger area called the Worth-Jefferis Rural Historic District. This means it's one of many important historical properties in that specific neighborhood.
