The idea for Casa Navàs came from a man named Joaquim Navàs Padró, who lived in Reus. He hired Lluís Domènech i Montaner to design his new home. The construction of this grand building took several years, starting in 1901 and finishing in 1908.

What Makes Casa Navàs Special?

Casa Navàs was built with incredible attention to detail. Many skilled artists and craftspeople worked on the project, all following the architect's plans.

  • Marble Work: The beautiful marble details were created by Alfons Juyol i Bach.
  • Paintings: The lovely paintings inside were done by Tomàs Bergadà.
  • Furniture: The unique furniture was made by Gaspar Homar.
  • Ceramics: The colorful ceramic pieces were crafted by Hipòlit Montseny.

All these artists worked together to make Casa Navàs a true work of art.

A House Through Time

Originally, Casa Navàs had a tall tower on its left side. However, this tower was sadly damaged during the Spanish Civil War. It was hit during a bombing by forces that were part of the Nationalist side of the war. The tower was never rebuilt after that.

Even without its tower, the inside of Casa Navàs is still very impressive. It has a large, bright space that feels open and welcoming. What's truly amazing is that most of the building is still exactly as it was when it was first finished. This includes the original furniture, the detailed ceramics, the colorful mosaics, and even the light fixtures. It's like stepping back in time to the early 1900s!
