What Makes Cascade Falls Special?

How Waterfalls Change Over Time

Waterfalls like Cascade Falls are always changing! The rushing water and splashes slowly wear away the rock at the bottom of the falls. This process is called "undercutting." Over a very long time, this can make the rock at the base unstable. Eventually, parts of the waterfall might even collapse, changing its shape. It's a natural process that shows the power of water!

How Cascade Falls Was Formed

Long, long ago, a much bigger river called the St. Croix River helped create Cascade Falls. This powerful river carved out a deep canyon in the land. This same process also helped form Osceola Creek and the smaller Geiger Falls nearby.

History of Cascade Falls

Discovery and Settlement

The Cascade Falls were first discovered in 1884 by a man named William Kent. The beauty of the waterfall was a big reason why settlers decided to make this area their home. Because of the falls, the village of Osceola was founded.

Visiting Cascade Falls

A Popular Attraction

Today, Cascade Falls is one of the main attractions in Osceola. Many people visit to see the beautiful waterfall and enjoy the surrounding area.

Special Lighting at Night

In July 2013, the village of Osceola added special LED lights to Cascade Falls. These lights were also installed at Geiger Falls and the Gristmill and Mill Pond parks. The lighting can glow like a full moon or change colors for different seasons. The lights were put in to make the falls even more fun to visit, especially at night, and to encourage more people to come see them.
