Casey Marie Krueger (born August 23, 1990) is an American professional soccer player. She plays as a left back (a defender on the left side of the field) for the Washington Spirit in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). She also plays for the United States national team.

Krueger played college soccer for the Florida State Seminoles. She was a top pick in the 2013 NWSL College Draft. During her eight seasons with the Chicago Red Stars, she was named to the NWSL's "Best XI" team twice and the "Second XI" once.

Krueger first played for the senior U.S. national team in 2016. She has won two Olympic medals with the team: a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and a gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Early Life and College Years

Growing Up in Illinois

Casey Krueger grew up in Naperville, Illinois. She went to Naperville Central High School. There, she was an excellent student and was named an Illinois State Scholar. In 2008, she was chosen as a PARADE All-American for soccer. She also helped her high school team win four Illinois state cup championships.

Casey was also a talented track runner. She won three state championships: two in the 800-meter run and one in the 400-meter dash. She was the first girl in Illinois history to win both the 800m and 400m Class AA track races in the same year.

Playing for Florida State

Krueger attended Florida State University. She played for the Florida State Seminoles women's soccer team. She studied Criminology and Sociology and later earned a master's degree in Sports Management. She was also on the Dean's list six times.

As a freshman in 2008, she started in most games and scored two goals. She was one of only two freshmen to play in every game that season. In 2010, she was one of six players to start every game for her team. She was also named to the All-ACC Second Team.

In 2011, Casey had a season-ending injury and took a break from playing. When she returned in 2012 for her final season, she became an outside back. She helped her team's defense set new records for shutouts (games where the opponent doesn't score). She also helped set a new NCAA record for the 13th longest streak of shutouts (9 games).

Shining with Chicago Red Stars

After her successful time in Norway, the Chicago Red Stars signed Krueger for the 2016 NWSL season. She had been acquired by them earlier but couldn't play due to another injury.

In 2016, Krueger started every game as a defender and scored two goals. She was named to the league's Second XI team for the season. In 2017, she played in 22 regular season games. She was named to the NWSL Team of the Month multiple times and was chosen for the 2017 NWSL Best XI. She was also nominated for Defender of the Year.
