Casey Marie Krueger (born August 23, 1990) is an American professional soccer player. She plays as a left back for the Washington Spirit in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). She also plays for the United States national team.
Krueger played college soccer for the Florida State Seminoles. She was a top pick in the 2013 NWSL College Draft. During her eight seasons with the Chicago Red Stars, she was named to the NWSL Best XI team twice.
Casey Krueger first played for the senior United States national team in 2016. She has won two Olympic medals with the team. These include a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and a gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Casey Krueger's Early Life and School Years
Casey Krueger grew up in Naperville, Illinois. Her parents are Kerrwin and LeeShelle Short. She went to Naperville Central High School. There, she was a great student and earned high honors.
Casey was also a talented athlete in high school. She was named a PARADE All-American in 2008. She helped her high school team win four Illinois state soccer championships. In 2008, she was known as a top soccer player by the Chicago Sun-Times.
Besides soccer, Casey also ran track. She won three state championships. She won two in the 800-meter run and one in the 400-meter dash. She was the first girl in Illinois to win both Class AA track runs in the same year.
College Soccer at Florida State
Casey Krueger attended Florida State University. She played for the Florida State Seminoles women's soccer team. She studied Criminology and Sociology. Later, she also earned a master's degree in Sports Management.
During her first year in 2008, Casey started in most games. She scored two goals and had six assists. She was one of only two first-year players to play in every game. Her team made it to the quarterfinals of the 2008 NCAA College Cup.
In 2009, Casey missed some games due to an injury. But she still ranked high in assists for her conference. By 2010, she was a key player, starting every game. She was named to the All-ACC Second Team.
Casey missed the 2011 season because of an injury. In her final season in 2012, she became an outside back. She helped her team's defense set new records. They had 17 shutouts and allowed very few goals. She was recognized for her strong play and academic success.
Casey Krueger's Professional Club Career
Casey Krueger was chosen by the Boston Breakers in the 2013 NWSL College Draft. However, she could not play in the first two NWSL seasons due to injuries.
Playing in Norway with Avaldsnes
In 2015, Casey played for Avaldsnes IL in Norway. This team is part of the Norwegian Toppserien league. She played very well and was named one of the Top XI players in the league.
Time with the Chicago Red Stars
After her successful time in Norway, the Chicago Red Stars signed Casey Krueger for the 2016 NWSL season. She had been acquired by the Red Stars in 2014 but had another injury before that season started.
In 2016, Casey was a starting defender in every game. She scored two goals and was named to the league's Second XI team. In 2017, she played in 22 games for the Red Stars. She was named to the NWSL Team of the Month multiple times. At the end of the season, she was part of the NWSL Best XI team. She was also nominated for Defender of the Year.
Casey missed some games in 2018 due to an ankle injury. In 2019, she was nominated for Defender of the Year again. She played for the Red Stars until 2023.
Joining the Washington Spirit
In January 2024, Casey Krueger left the Red Stars. She signed a three-year contract with the Washington Spirit. She continues to play for them today.
Casey Krueger's International Career

Casey Krueger has played for the senior national team. She also played for several youth national teams. These include the under-16, under-17, under-20, and under-23 teams. She played in the 2010 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Germany.
Casey was first called up to the senior national team in October 2016. She made her first appearance on October 19, 2016. She played the entire game against Switzerland women's national football team.
In 2018, Casey played in the Tournament of Nations. She also played in two games during the 2018 CONCACAF Women's Championship. Her play helped the U.S. team qualify for the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup.
Casey was not on the World Cup roster in May 2019. But after the U.S. won the World Cup, she joined the team for friendly games. In November 2019, she started a game against Sweden. Her pass led to the first goal of the game.
In February 2020, Casey was on the roster for the 2020 SheBelieves Cup. She helped the team win their final match against Japan.
On June 23, 2021, Casey Krueger was chosen for the U.S. national team for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The team won a bronze medal at these games.
In February 2024, Casey was selected for the 2024 CONCACAF W Gold Cup. She played in three games, including the final against Brazil. The U.S. team won this first-ever Gold Cup.
Casey Krueger also earned a spot on the 2024 U.S. Women’s Soccer National Team for the 2024 Olympics in Paris. She came into the gold medal game against Brazil as a substitute. The United States won the game 1–0, earning the gold medal.
Casey Krueger's Personal Life
In May 2020, Casey Krueger announced her engagement to Cody Krueger. They got married on December 5, 2020.
In December 2021, Casey shared that she was expecting her first child. She gave birth to her son, Caleb, in July 2022.
