Castañeiras facts for kids
Castañeira is a small village located in Spain. It's part of the Balboa area, which is in a region called El Bierzo. This region is found in the province of León, within the larger area known as Autonomous Community of Castilla y León.
Castañeira is special because it's almost at a place called the Port of Portelo. It's also the very last village you see before you enter El Bierzo if you're coming from the province of Lugo. The villages closest to Castañeira are Parajís and Villanueva (Balboa), both about 1.4 kilometers away. There's also a place called Comeal nearby, but no one lives there anymore.
The Legend of the Golden Yoke
Castañeira is known for an old legend, just like many other places in El Bierzo. This story talks about a "golden yoke" that was supposedly buried somewhere nearby.
The legend connects this treasure to beings called "Moors." But in these old stories, the "Moors" weren't real people. Instead, they were thought of as magical or legendary creatures. The legend says that these beings lived in a place called "the Curtain the Mouro," and that's where the treasure was hidden.
