The Castillo de Alcaudete is an old castle located in Alcaudete, a town in the province of Jaén, Spain. This impressive castle has a long and exciting history, standing strong for hundreds of years.

Exploring Alcaudete Castle

This castle was first built by the Arabs on top of an even older Roman fort. Imagine how many layers of history are beneath its walls! In 1085, Christians took control of it when King Alfonso VI was ruling.

A Look at Its Long History

For almost 300 years after 1085, the castle was often fought over. It kept changing hands between different groups. Finally, in 1340, Christians took full and lasting control of the castle. This shows how important and strategic the castle was in those times.

What Does the Castle Look Like?

The castle is shaped like a polygon, which means it has many sides. Its design fits perfectly with the natural slopes and hills of the land around it. The castle has six main towers. One of the most important is the tall Tower of Homage. The main entrance to the castle is on the north side. This door is extra safe because it is guarded by two more towers.

Visiting the Castle Today

Today, the Castillo de Alcaudete has been restored and is in great condition. It's a wonderful example of medieval architecture. Because of its historical importance, it was officially recognized as a Bien de Interés Cultural monument in 1949. This means it's a protected cultural site.
