Castillo de Alesga facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Castillo de Alesga is an old ruined castle in Spain. It is located on a hillside in the San Pedro Valley, close to the town of San Salvador d'Alesga, in a region of Spain called Asturias. The castle is also near a mountain pass known as Puerto de Ventana.

What is the Castillo de Alesga?

The castle has a large square tower in its center, which is about 20 meters (65 feet) wide and 40 meters (130 feet) long. You can still see parts of a small round tower and some old stone walls that once belonged to the castle.

A Look at Its History

Even though the castle you see today was built in the Middle Ages, some people think it might have started as a Roman tower a very long time ago. Records show that this tower was first mentioned in history way back in the year 1122. Later, in the 1400s (the 15th century), a powerful family known as the Casa de Miranda owned the castle.
