The Castillo de Almodóvar del Río is an amazing old castle in the town of Almodóvar del Río, Spain. Its name, Hisnu-l-mudawar, means "the round castle." This historic building was first a Roman fort. Later, in the year 760, it became a strong Moorish castle.
Over many centuries, the castle was repaired and rebuilt several times. Between 1901 and 1936, a man named Rafael Desmaissieres, who owned the castle, worked to restore it. He had help from an architect named Adolfo Fernández Casanova. The castle has three very important towers: the Cuadrada, the Redonda, and the Homenaje.
The castle is about 15 miles (24 kilometers) from the city of Córdoba. It sits on the left side of the Guadalquivir River.
A Castle from TV
This famous castle was used for filming a popular TV show! Parts of the 7th season of the HBO series Game of Thrones were filmed here. The castle was used to show two important places from the show. It became Highgarden, which is the home of House Tyrell. It also stood in for parts of Casterly Rock, the ancient home of House Lannister.
