Castorama is a well-known French company that sells tools and supplies for DIY (Do It Yourself) projects and home improvement. Imagine a huge store where you can find everything you need to fix up your house or garden!

The company's main office is in Templemars, France. Castorama is part of a bigger British company called Kingfisher plc. They have many stores: 101 in France and 90 in Poland.

The Story of Castorama

Castorama started a long time ago. It was founded in 1969 by Christian Dubois. The very first store opened in Englos, near Lille, France. It was a very big store for its time, covering 5,000 square meters!

Growing Bigger

Castorama quickly became popular. A second store opened in 1972, and a third in 1973. By 1975, Castorama stores were opening outside their home region. Just 20 years after starting, Castorama had 80 stores across France!

A Catchy Slogan

In 1977, Castorama launched a famous slogan. It was "Chez Casto, y a tout ce qu'il faut!" This means "At Casto, there's everything you need!" It was a very popular phrase.

Part of a Bigger Family

In May 2002, Castorama became part of the British company Kingfisher plc. Kingfisher also owns another DIY store chain called Brico Dépôt.

Changes and Sales

Sometimes, Castorama stores have been changed or moved. Some stores were turned into the "DIY warehouse" style of Brico Dépôt. This style is similar to the B&Q Warehouse stores in the United Kingdom.

In 2009, Kingfisher sold 31 Castorama stores in Italy. These stores were bought by another French retailer called Leroy Merlin.
