The Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace (which in Spanish is Catedral de Nuestra Señora de la Paz) is a very important church in Trujillo, Venezuela. It's also known as the Cathedral of Trujillo. This beautiful building belongs to the Catholic Church and is located right across from Plaza Bolívar in the city.
The church is built in a style called Baroque, which means it has lots of fancy details and decorations. It serves as the main church for the Catholic area known as the Diocese of Trujillo. This diocese was officially created on June 4, 1957, by Pope Pius XII.
The building we see today was finished in 1662, but its construction actually began much earlier, in 1630. It was updated in 1890. A famous historical event happened here: Simón Bolívar, a national hero of Venezuela, had important discussions with Bishop Lazo de la Vega inside this very cathedral. Because of its historical value, the church was declared a national historical monument of Venezuela in 1960.
