Early Life and Studies

Catherine Kontz was born in 1976. She loved music and decided to study composition. She went to Goldsmiths, University of London. There, she worked with a teacher named Roger Redgate.

For her highest degree, called a doctorate, she studied how different ideas connect. She looked at how the ideas of a thinker named Gilles Deleuze relate to a special kind of opera called mime opera. She also explored how movies by director David Lynch and a traditional Japanese theater style called Kabuki influenced her work.

This research helped her create her own mime opera called MiE. It was first shown in London at The Space in 2006.

Her Creative Works

Catherine Kontz is known for creating many interesting projects. In 2013, she wrote and directed an opera called Neige. This opera was based on a book by Maxence Fermine. It was performed at the Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg.

Her music has been played by famous groups like the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. Other groups, such as Exaudi and ensemble recherche, have also performed her pieces for the first time.

Besides composing and directing, Catherine Kontz also performs herself. She is part of a band called French for Cartridge. They play a type of music known as progressive pop.
