Catherine Lacey (born May 6, 1904 – died September 23, 1979) was a talented English actress. She was famous for her work on both the stage and in movies.

Becoming an Actress
Catherine Lacey started her acting career on stage. Her very first performance was in a play called The Thirteenth Chair. This happened on April 13, 1925, in Brighton, England. She then made her first appearance in London's famous West End theater district in July 1926. The play was Cock o' the Roost.
Famous Stage Roles
Catherine Lacey acted in many plays throughout her career. Some of her notable performances in London's West End included The Green Bay Tree (1933) and After the Dance (1939). She also performed on Broadway in New York City. Her Broadway debut was in The Venetian in 1931.
She also worked with important theater groups. She acted at the Old Vic theatre in London in 1951 and 1962. There, she played big roles like Clytemnestra in Electra and Emilia in Othello. In 1967, she joined the Royal Shakespeare Company. She played Volumnia in Coriolanus and the Countess of Rousillon in All's Well That Ends Well.

Early Film Roles
Her first movie role was in 1938. She appeared in Alfred Hitchcock's famous film The Lady Vanishes. In this movie, she played a mysterious nun. She was credited as Catherine Lacy in this film.
Later Film and TV Work
Catherine Lacey acted in many other movies. These included I Know Where I'm Going! (1945) and Whisky Galore! (1949). She also played Queen Elizabeth I in The Fighting Prince of Donegal (1966).
In the late 1960s, she took on some interesting roles in horror films. She played a fortune-teller in The Mummy's Shroud (1967). She also played the wife of Boris Karloff's character in The Sorcerers (1967). For her role in The Sorcerers, she won an award called the 'Silver Asteroid' for Best Actress in 1968. This award was given at the Trieste Science Fiction Film Festival.
Catherine Lacey also appeared on television. Her first TV appearance was in 1938 in a BBC show called The Duchess of Malfi. Her last acting role was in 1973, in a TV show called Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont. Eight years before that, she won an award for Actress of the Year from the Guild of TV Producers and Directors.
