Cedar Grove Christian Academy is a private Christian school. It is located in the Lawndale neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The school uses a very old and historic building. This building was once known as the Lawndale School.
The Historic School Building
The building where Cedar Grove Christian Academy is located was built a long time ago. Construction happened between 1903 and 1904. It is a two-story building made of brick with stone on the outside.
Building Style and Features
The building's design is called the Colonial Revival style. This style looks back to the architecture of early American colonial times. It has strong stone sills and lintels around the windows. A "crenellated parapet" means the top edge of the wall looks like the top of a castle.
In the 1920s, two more sections were added to the building. These new parts were also two stories tall. They were designed by an architect named Irwin T. Catharine.
A Place of History
Because of its special design and history, the building is very important. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. This is a list of places in the United States that are important to history. Being on this list helps protect the building for future generations.
