Early Life and Education
Cedar Sigo grew up in Suquamish, Washington. This area is part of the Port Madison Indian Reservation. When he was 17, in 1995, he received a special scholarship. This scholarship allowed him to study at the Naropa Institute. It was a school in Boulder, Colorado.
At Naropa, Cedar Sigo learned from famous poets. He met and worked with writers like Allen Ginsberg and Anne Waldman. Other important poets he learned from included Lisa Jarnot, Alice Notley, and Joanne Kyger.
His Work as a Writer
Cedar Sigo has written many books and small collections of poems. Some of his poems have been featured in different magazines. They have also appeared in special collections of writings.
He has shared his poetry at many places across the United States. These include famous spots like the Poetry Project in New York. He also read at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Cedar Sigo has shared his work at the San Francisco Poetry Center. He also read at the Suquamish Community House. This place is also known as The House of Awakened Culture.
His poems have been published in many journals. Some of these are The Poker, Shampoo, and New York Nights. Cedar Sigo still lives in Washington State today.
