Celastraceae (staff vine family) |
Celastrales is a group of flowering plants. Scientists call this group an "order." These plants grow all over the world. You can find them mostly in warm, tropical, and subtropical areas. A few types also live in cooler, temperate regions.
There are many different kinds of Celastrales. About 1,200 to 1,350 species exist. These species belong to about 100 different plant groups called "genera." Most of these genera, all but seven, are part of a big family called Celastraceae. This family is also known as the staff vine family.
In the past, scientists had different ideas about how to group these plants. But now, they mostly agree on how the Celastrales order is organized.
What are Celastrales?
Celastrales are a specific order of plants. This means they share many common features. They are all flowering plants. This means they produce flowers to reproduce.
Where Do Celastrales Grow?
These plants love warm weather. They are very common in places near the Equator. This includes areas like the Amazon Rainforest or parts of Southeast Asia. Some types can also survive in places with colder winters. These are called temperate regions.
Families in Celastrales
The Celastrales order has two main plant families. The biggest one is Celastraceae. This family includes many well-known plants. One example is the Euonymus europaea, shown in the picture. The other family is called Lepidobotryaceae. It has fewer types of plants.
