The Center for Information Warfare Training (CIWT) is a key part of the United States Navy. It's one of the main learning centers under the Naval Education and Training Command. CIWT's main office is in Escambia County, Florida, at Naval Air Station Pensacola Corry Station.

CIWT is in charge of creating training programs for over 26,000 Navy members each year. These sailors learn about things like secret codes (cryptology), gathering important information (intelligence), and working with computer systems and networks. They also learn about different languages, cultures, and regions around the world.

CIWT offers about 200 different courses globally. Around 4,000 students attend classes every day. The center has about 1,200 staff members, including military personnel and civilians.

What CIWT Does

CIWT helps train sailors for the Navy's Information Warfare Corps. This group of sailors works with all kinds of information. They learn how to protect important data and understand information from different sources.

The training covers several important areas:

  • Cryptology and Intelligence: This involves working with secret codes and gathering important information.
  • Cyber Operations: This focuses on computer systems, networks, and online security.
  • Information Technology: This teaches sailors how to manage and use computer systems.
  • Language and Culture: This helps sailors understand different languages and customs from around the world.

CIWT's Training Schools

CIWT has four main "schoolhouse commands." Each school focuses on different types of training. They all have their own leaders and work on their specific areas.

Information Warfare Training Command Corry Station

This school is located at Corry Station in Florida. It teaches sailors how to work with secret codes and computer systems. They also train future computer experts and information technology specialists.

Information Warfare Training Command Monterey

Located in Presidio of Monterey, California, this school specializes in language training. It helps Navy linguists learn new languages. This is important for sailors who need to communicate with people from other countries.

Information Warfare Training Command San Diego

This school is in San Diego, California. It trains sailors in secret codes, electronics, and intelligence gathering. They also teach about information systems.

Information Warfare Training Command Virginia Beach

Located in Virginia Beach, Virginia, this school also trains sailors in secret codes, electronics, and intelligence. It prepares them for roles in information warfare.

History of CIWT

The Center for Information Warfare Training used to have a different name. Before 2016, it was called the Center for Information Dominance. The name was changed to better reflect its mission of training for information warfare.
