History of Centerville
Centerville was first planned and created in the year 1817. It was most likely given its name because it was located near the exact geographical center of Smith Township.
For a while, Centerville had another name: Demos. There was even a post office in Demos that opened in 1837. This post office helped people send and receive mail for many years, until it finally closed in 1923.
